Technical and Vocational Education

A large number of educated young men are loitering here and there as unemployed. They are not getting even low paid services. The numerous number of students are running after petty jobs. There is great discontent amongst the educated youth today in our country. There is a defect in the present system of education which has continued right from the British period. It is quite unsuitable to the needs of modern India. The students educated under that system can do only office work, which has also its limitation. That is one of the reasons for the increasing unemployment problem in India.

After India became free, an industrial revolution took place in our country. Late Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, the former Prime Minister of India, had a high vision in this regard. He is known as a founder of modern India. His leadership bore fruit. India could establish itself and we could do rapid progress in the field of industrialization. We could also create jobs in the industries for our youth.

Our country is quite rich in natural resources. We have to make the best use of our natural gifts. We need enough technical and well qualified young men to exploit these resources. The technical and vocational education can give us expert engineers, technicians and mechanics, who can turn these things into best utilization. It is necessary to encourage technical and vocational education at large for enabling the talented persons to do many things with their common sense and practical skill. Technical and vocational training will inspire the technically qualified people to go to industries for working. It will simultaneously reduce pressure from them for entering into general services. As a result, we can easily provide jobs to the youth lacking technical qualification in general services and reduce the unemployment problem in the country.

The vocational and technical education generates capability for self-employment and it provides jobs for others too. The youth who are technically qualified can start their own work and business independently.

India has emerged as a strong industrial country. We have the reputation today in the global market. Our industrial growth is very good and we are able to compete with the world market. It is our dream to make India a country of twenty first century. That can be possible only when we increase the factories, their modernization and make technically trained hands available for effective functioning and adequate productivity in the factories.

If we look towards the developed countries, we find that they did progress a lot and became able in dominating the world because of their planned strategy for industrialization with adequate human resource management for working in the industries. Though they are not rich in natural resources like India, yet they are known throughout the world for their might and progress. The virtual effect of technical and vocational education has placed them in such an honourable position. India which is full of natural resources and known for dedication and hard work can easily surpass them if we begin to provide technical and vocational education to the students and make serious efforts in enhancing the qualitative productivity.

There should be a political will to establish more and more good technical and vocational institutes in different parts of the country. Though the government has already established some technical institutes which are producing highly skilled engineers, yet it is not sufficient. We need more capable and technically qualified youngsters for doing very well in various industries, factories and the institutes since this is a competitive era. There is a need to establish more and better educational institutes within the country for advanced technical studies for enabling us to get more highly skilled youth for working with latest technology in our industrial organisations. These kinds of technologists will be able to produce more and with better quality. There is a big problem of brain-drain in our country. We can check it with such advanced technical education and better working conditions in the factories and industries. The talented brain can be attracted for working within the country by providing genuine facilities and making their profession more lucrative.

We are still lagging behind in the field of industrialization. We need to enhance the standard of production by modernizing the factories and industries to enable us to achieve the goal. There is a requirement of skilled engineers and the technicians for quantitative and qualitative production. Under these circumstances the people running the factories and the industries, with technically well qualified and competent people, will also be able to create economic climate in the country. What is the youth looking for today ‘? He is looking definitely for better technical education from reputed institutes and placement in well-established company, which could provide better salary and working conditions. If our companies can fulfill these requirements, the first choice of technically qualified youngsters will be their own country. No one wants to leave his sweet country unless he finds better opportunities outside. To enable India to compete with the world, there would be a requirement of modern industrialization, efficient technical hands and better working conditions, for which the country has to work seriously.

India is a vast country. We are still lagging behind in the field of health care. There is a requirement of interlink between academic institutes, medical colleges and research organisations so as to choose the best brain and provide best medical professionals in the country, who by virtue of their technical qualification and best ability, can give super treatment to people. In this modern age, when medical science has advanced, only the brainy medical professionals with high technical proficiency can handle the complicated cases with new machines and technology.

In the age of science and technology, the maximum functions have been mechanized. The requirement as well as expertise of technically and vocationally qualified people has increased. The time has come when there is a need to motivate the youth of the country to go for technical and vocational studies to ensure suitable jobs. The industrial growth and the reputation of the product depends on the expertise and experience of the technicians. A technically sound man can operate the system smoothly with his competence. The engineers and technically qualified people can play an instrumental role for better production. There will be a great contribution of such skilled community in the era of science and technology for making a strong and beautiful India very soon.
