How To Weld Two Pieces of Metal

The art of welding metal is as ancient as the civilizations of the world. The most common method of welding is the form of pressure welding. Two ends of a metal are heated to a white heat. In the case of iron, the welding temperature should be about 1300 degrees. At this point, the metal becomes extremely plastic in nature. The ends are then hammered together after placing them on one another. The joints are subsequently smoothed off. Care should also be taken that the surface of both the metals is absolutely clean of any dirt or it will weaken the joint. Moreover, heating of iron and steel to a very high temperature causes oxidation. A film of oxide forms on the heated surfaces of these metals. To avoid this phenomenon flux is applies to the surface. At the welding heat, the flux mixes with the oxide particles and other impurities by melting. When the surfaces of two metal strips are pressed together, the flux is squeezed out from the center of the weld. Expert welders use various types of weldings to fuse pieces of metal together. For example, welding of thick metal bars is done by employing V-shaped welds. Such welds are much stronger than the ordinary type of welds that are used for thinner metals. The degree of heat in the welding torches is controlled by using different burning materials like oxy-acetylene, etc. It also depends upon the shape of the metal and the quality of the metals.
