Dear Sir,

Allow me to invite the attention of the Government of India to the urgent need of adopting ways and means to check the rate of speed at which the population of the country is increasing. It is increasing by leaps and bounds. People are superstitious and still believe that every birth is an act of God and not a human act. No sensible man will thank and believe like this. To go on producing children blindly and thoughtlessly whether you can afford to feed, clothe and educate them or not, is an anti-social activity which must be curbed.

The latest census report is not only revealing but also alarming. During the last ten years, the population of the country has gone up by 20%. All over the world, steps are being taken to regulate population increase. In our country the need of such measures is all the more imperative. Ours is a poor country where millions don’t get two square meals a day and where the standard of living is extremely low. All our Five Year Plans will be nullified if population goes on increasing at the present rate. Check on population is urgently called for The half-hearted use of contraceptives and opening of Family Planning centres will not solve the problem. The adoption of more effective measures is the crying need of the hour. A more intensive campaigning is necessary. Penalties and additional taxes may be imposed on those who produce more than the prescribed maximum of children.

The question is so important that we can no longer sleep over it. The problem of ever increasing population has to be solved at the earliest if Indians want to live and live with dignity.
