Terrorism

Terrorism is the use of violence to attain one’s political ends. It is one of the greatest threats to human life in the modern world. Among its causes are communal feelings, political and social injustice, racial jealousies and unemployment amongst youth. Terrorism includes kidnapping of eminent personalities, bombing of civilian territories, blowing up of buses, trains and aeroplanes and killing innocent people, all with a view to spread fear among the masses, and force governments to accede to the demands of the terrorists.

The roots of terrorism can be traced to misguided youth. Young people drift towards anarchism and terrorism when they have nothing to look forward to or when they feel that society has been unfair to them.

While this problem cannot be solved overnight, at least an effort can be made to eradicate it in course of time. Meanwhile terrorism has to be tackled with an iron hand. The killing of innocent men, women and children in crowded market places and recreation centres cannot be condoned under any circumstances. The common man should react to this intolerable situation and, instead of always looking for a scapegoat in the form of the elusive “foreign hand”, should look nearer home, and get rid of corrupt governments and evil politicians.
