All is Well
“The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.”
Our present day education system is flawed at many levels. In our never ending pursuit for higher scores and better results in examinations, have we forgotten to enjoy the journey called learning?
Learning is a lifelong pursuit; one never stops learning. To enjoy this journey in totality, we need to focus on the pleasure of learning rather than on its outcome. Introducing children to the joys of reading. encouraging their creativity and inspiring them to look for ‘out of the box’ answers rather than to learn by rote, will create children who explore, question and thereby, learn more.
Children are born with innumerous talents. Courses in drama, art and art appreciation, theater, music and other vocations, which deviate from the mainstream professional courses like medicine and engineering, will inspire children with various talents to excel in a subject of their own preference, instead of compelling them to be average students in a subject that they do not like or find hard to understand.
These changes need to come in at the grass root level in all schools. Having only a handful of schools take the initiative will not work for the children community at large.
If only, like Aamir Khan in 3 idiots, we could pat a hand on our hearts and wish away our problems by saying “aal izz well’ then truly, all will be well!
