It was a cold day. There was some fog and not much traffic on the road. I was once an eyewitness to a road accident. I was standing in the bus stop.

Suddenly I heard a loud noise. The driver of a car lost his balance at a turn. He crashed into an electric pole. The driver was the only person in the car.

The car was badly smashed. A pool of blood had collected on the road. After some time a team of traffic police came. They cleared away the crowd. Then they began their investigation. It was a horrible experience.

I could not believe my eyes. It was a heart-rending sight. I feel pained whenever I am reminded of the accident.

A Road Accident

I was the witness to a horrifying road accident that has left a mark on my mind. The accident had occurred near the New Delhi railway station. A car coming from the opposite direction dashed against a truck which suddenly took a turn in the wrong direction. The windscreen of the car was completely smashed and the front side of its body was badly damaged. The car was thrown out at a distance. The occupants of the car received serious injuries but, by God’s grace, there was no casualty. In an accident of that type, it was indeed a miraculous escape for the occupants of the car. A large number of people gathered at the sight of the accident. Some people went to inform the police while some others rendered a helping hand to the injured persons. The police arrived within minutes and arranged for the injured to be taken to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

A Road Accident

Accidents are common in big cities. We daily hear of road accidents and read about them in newspapers. Such accidents often result in loss of life and material. These are caused by the carelessness of the drivers and their negligence of the traffic rules.

One evening my brother and I decided to see a film at Purabi Cinema in Kolkata. As we were getting late for the show, we began ‘walking faster along the crowded road. All of a sudden there was a loud noise. I saw a man rolling on the ground. He was knocked down by a car. The driver was driving it at a normal speed. He saw a lorry coming from the opposite direction. It was being driven rashly. The car driver feared a collision. He tried to turn the vehicle aside, but his clutch wire broke and the machine got out of his control. It ran into a passerby and hit the pavement.

The man was seriously wounded. He sustained injuries on the head and face. His nose was bleeding and his leg was badly bruised.

A crowd gathered on the spot. The wounded man was removed to a nearby hospital. Some people started abusing and hitting the car driver. Someone tried to convince them that it was not his fault. It was just an accident.

Luckily the victim was declared out of danger. His wounds were dressed and he was advised to rest in bed to get over the shock.

The police also arrived at the place of the accident. The car driver and the lorry driver were taken to the police station. Their statements were recorded. The car driver was let off but the lorry driver was detained.
