The Cyclists

Geraldine was having a great time. She was cycling at East Coast Park. It was dawn and the park was deserted Geraldine sped down the cycling path.

“Whoopee!” she shouted. She let go of the handlebars and waved her hands in the air.

Without warning, another cyclist appeared in front of her. Geraldine screamed in fright. She grabbed the handlebars and tried to steer away from the other cyclist. It was too late. She crashed into him and both of them tumbled to the ground.

Geraldine was slightly bruised but she ignored her wounds. She jumped to her feet and accused the other cyclist of getting in her way. The man was just picking himself up. He glared at Geraldine and told her off for cycling recklessly. “You should not have let go of the handlebars while cycling! I was also ringing my bell loudly. Didn’t you hear it?”

“No, I did not!” Geraldine shouted back. “You should have been looking out for me. You were cycling much too fast!”

The man was exasperated. He tried to explain himself but he could not get a word in. He could not stop Geraldine from shouting at him. Shaking his head, he picked up his bicycle and cycled off without another word.
