Preparing for the Race
Betty was very frustrated. She had been training day and night but she still could not run as fast as she wanted to.
Betty usually ran along the track before dinner. One night, she was practicing as usual. She ran as fast as she could but it was still not good enough. She shouted at the top of her voice and flung her stopwatch on the ground. She wanted to stop training but she did not want to disappoint her parents. She was about to return home when she heard someone calling her. It was her classmate, Jane.
Betty was surprised to see Jane at the stadium. Jane did not like running. To Betty’s delight, Jane said that she wanted to run with her. She said that she would keep Betty Company and help to time her. As Betty had a friend to spur her on now, she was able to run much faster than before. She also felt less tired.
On the day of the race, Jane was among the spectators. She cheered loudly for Betty. Betty waved to her friend. She knew that she would be able to do well in the race.
