A Change in the Weather

The wind was howling as Jasper changed into his school uniform. The sky was overcast. Before long, lightning flashed across the sky and thunder crashed loudly. Jasper thought that there was probably going to be a thunderstorm. He took out his thickest jacket and put it on. He also took a huge umbrella.

Jasper hurried to school. His house was quite a distance from the school. At first, there were a few drops of rain. However, instead of getting heavier, the rain subsided and eventually stopped. Jasper stared at the sky in disbelief. The clouds were parting and the rays of the sun shone fiercely through. In minutes, the sky was a light blue. When Jasper reached school, the students at the gate burst into laughter when they saw Jasper perspiring profusely in his thick woollen jacket. They laughed even louder when they saw the huge umbrella he was holding.

“Are you crazy?” asked one of his classmates. “Why are you wearing a jacket on such a beautiful sunny day?”

Jasper was very embarrassed. He kept his head down so that he did not have to look anyone in the eye. He walked directly to his classroom. He took off his jacket and stuffed it into his school bag. He also hid his umbrella at the back of the classroom.
