A Broken Doll
Cathy’s favourite toy was a doll. Her father had given it to her on her eighth birthday. Cathy took it everywhere with her.
Once, Cathy took it to the park. She was going to have a picnic there with her friend, Geraldine. Cathy put her doll on the mat. Geraldine thought that the doll was very pretty. She picked it up to take a closer look. However, Cathy did not want Geraldine to touch her doll. She tried to snatch it back from her.
Geraldine was annoyed with Cathy. “I just want to take a look,” she said.
She refused to give Cathy back the doll. Cathy was livid. She reached over and grabbed the doll. However, Geraldine held on to the doll tightly. Suddenly, there was a ripping sound. The doll had broken in two! Geraldine was very sorry for what she had done. She apologized profusely to Cathy. However, Cathy refused to talk to her. She ran home in tears.
The next day, Geraldine visited Cathy. She had a new doll with her. It was not as pretty as the one Cathy had. Cathy was surprised to see the new doll. She knew that Geraldine must have spent all her savings on it. She decided to forgive her. The two of them became friends again.
