Example is Better Than Precept
There are numerous people in the world who are good preachers but not great doers. They preach about the ethics of life but themselves do wrong deeds. These type of people are not taken seriously by others. Their preaching are ignored, as other people think that what they all preach is false. Their words are considered bluff though they might contain some truth.
Such persons are condemned by the society. Decent people of the society don’t like these kind of hypocrites who say something else, but do something else.
The preachers must practice what they say. Firstly, they should correct their own flaws and then tell others to correct themselves. If they preach of good character then they should develop their own character first, and thereafter preach others about it. If they talk of ‘Pure love’, then they must possess pure feelings for others because if they would not practice what they preach, then nobody would listen to them. Therefore, if one wants to attain laurels in the world then do virtuous deeds and thereafter preach to others. Remember that ‘Example is better than precept’.
