Dear Sir,
Through the columns of your esteemed paper, I want to invite the attention of the authorities concerned to the deplorable conditions of the roads and drains in the town.
Some of the streets are not paved at all. They are seldom swept. Heaps of rubbish and garbage keep lying on the roads for days. Children and even grown-ups ease themselves on the roads and gutters freely. There is no check on them. Heaps of night soil lying here and there are a very obnoxious sight. They are playing havoc with the health of the people. The drains give out a foul smell. They are never washed and flushed with phenyl. There is a danger of some epidemic breaking out in a virulent form.
There are some streets which are without proper drains. Drains in most of the streets badly need immediate repairs. The water accumulates in the streets blocking all traffic. What a terrible sight!
Most of the roads are badly broken. They are in a terrible state of disrepair. There are roads full of pits. Yesterday a tonga turned turtle in a pit in the road outside Hall Gate. Its occupants were badly hurt. The wheels of the tonga were broken to pieces. Such instances can be multiplied. Some streets are without light. Absence of light is a great hindrance to traffic at night time.
Let us hope the authorities concerned will feel their duty in the matter and set things right without loss of time lest some epidemic should break out and carry off a large number of people.
Yours faithfully,
Amit.
