When were woman detectives employed?

First WOMEN DETECTIVES

The first WOMEN DETECTIVES in Britain were appointed by Chief Constable Lane of the Lancashire Constabulary in 1918. The women had originally been employed as clerks but. when they showed aptitude, he ‘put them on the detective side’. Based at Preston, they received the same pay and training as their male colleagues and were styled Detective Constables. At least one of their number, Lillian Naylor, who became a Detective Inspector, was engaged in counter-terrorism work against the IRA.
