When was the first perforated stamp issued?

First PERFORATED STAMP

The first PERFORATED STAMP was the Penny Red issued in February 1854. The originator of the idea, Henry Archer, had constructed his first perforating apparatus in 1847, but this only made slits along the sides of the stamps. By the end of the following year, however, he had adapted it so that a succession of small holes were punched in the paper.
