A hospital can be defined as a place where the sick and the wounded are nursed back to health. This is done under the supervision of qualified doctors and nurses. In order to accommodate patients suffering from different diseases and wounds, a hospital is divided into many wings or wards. Thus if a patient suffers from a heart problem, he is admitted in the coronary ward. The people who are injured in an accident are treated in the accident ward. Each of these wards has an Out Patient’s Department, or the OPD, where patients with minor problems are treated. Such types of patients are not admitted in the hospital. The OPDs are very crowded, Similar crowd can be seen in the General ward. There are hundreds of beds in this ward. They are systematically placed in two or more rows. Patients suffering from all types of diseases are admitted in this ward. Doctors and nurses visit these wards at regular intervals. They monitor the progress of the patient. Hospitals also provide food and other facilities like the telephone, blood, diagnostics, and medicines to the patients. For people who can afford to pay for good accommodation and facilities, there are private wards in the hospitals. The rooms in this ward are provided with a Television set, a refrigerator a personal toilet, etc. However, a hospital is called a good hospital only when the care of the patient is done in a humane, efficient, and sympathetic manner.
