A Cyclone

A cyclone is a violent storm which takes place when a depression is formed in an area owing to changes in the atmosphere. During this time, the winds from surrounding places rush to that area. The air rises up and the atmosphere becomes cool. The wind blows at a great speed of over 80 km per hour and is followed by heavy rainfall.

Cyclones can sometimes cause great damage. Many things get blown away due to the strong wind. Trees, lines of communication, and even traffic get affected. Electricity often fails and people face great inconvenience. In villages life becomes much harder. Huts are destroyed, and the crops in the fields are affected. Trees are uprooted, and often cattle get injured or killed.

Places on the sea-shore have to face stormy waves lashing the shore, while the fishermen try their best to keep their boats afloat and in one piece. If the cyclone is very severe, ships and steamers also face the grave danger of sinking.

Whenever there is a cyclone there is extreme scarcity of food. People living in villages lose their belongings and there is a lot of misery all around. The Government, social workers and welfare organizations come to the aid of the people in distress.

In the olden days, people used to say that a cyclone came when the gods were angry to teach man a lesson. But today we all know that a cyclone is nature’s way of release, owing to the changing temperatures.
